Terranatos

...in fact is a small killifish, scientifically known as Terranatos dolichopterus. A real beauty belonging to the group of so called season fishes. It's full circle of life is completed within only one year. After the first rains, pools are filled with water. The eggs hatch and new life starts. Within a few weeks the Terranatos grow to adult fishes, ready to spawn. They lay their eggs in the muddy ground. After the rainy season, the pool dries and the adult fishes die ....but the eggs are safely developing in the ground, waiting for the new rainy season when life starts again.

Actually, that's what the name Terranatos means: 'born from the earth'...aren't we all...?
